BIOS is on the way

BIOS: The bio-intelligent DBTL cycle, a key catalyst for industrial transformation towards sustainable bioproduction, is driving the industry towards a biological transformation.

As part of the "Digital and Emerging Technologies" call for proposals, the kick-off event for the European BIOS project took place on October 5 and 6, 2022 at the Baden-Württemberg Representation in Brussels (see image). BIOS officially began on October 1 and will run for four years. Nine partners from science and industry from six European countries are supporting and driving forward the paradigm of "biointelligence": the convergence of biotechnology, information technology including AI and automation technology. Biointelligence forms the core of BIOS and accelerates the sustainable production of novel fine chemicals and raw materials. BIOS applies hybrid learning to fully utilize the information generated automatically in the vast amounts of experimental data on biorobotics. The project brings together experts from the fields of molecular and synthetic biology, systems metabolic engineering, microbiology, bioprocess engineering, chemistry and life cycle assessment.

The dedicated team has one collective goal: to replace current fossil routes with sustainable microbial processes through the help of the biointelligent mindset. Soon, progress of BIOS will be shared publicly through different channels.
